About us

Z FM was formerly known as Island FM 101 when it was established in 1995 under the ownership of a New Zealand Tree Nursery Company. It was subsequently sold to locals after the company’s attempt to take over the national broadcaster SIBC in 1996 failed.

In 1997 XJ6 a popular clothing retail company took ownership and changed the name to ZFM 100 Classics.

In 2008 XJ6 decided to strategically change the station’s name and stations logo to Z FM 99.5 rait mix with a focus on more local content and programming.

When Z FM 99.6 rait mix was eventually sold to the current owners Low Price Enterprise in 2010, it decided to keep the name with only the logo changed to my favourite music station.

Z FM 99.5 my favourite music station is a commercial music radio station that balances both international and local contents. Z FM 99.5 is focused on being the FM radio station that encourages Solomon Islands expression, through entertainment, information and programming that reflects the audiences within our reach.

Demographics

Z FM covers the whole of Honiara, the Capital City of Solomon Island. It also reaches rural communities in Guadalcanal, Malaita, Central Islands and parts of Western and Makira Provinces

Z FM reaches 479,961 people in the Solomon Islands. This represents 73.47% of the total of the 653,248 Solomon Islands population.

Background & Purpose

The mission of Z FM 99.5 is to be an open voice to entertain, inform and connect to communities within our reach in the Solomon Islands. Programming is created by our staff but we generally expect to broadcast a diverse mixture that entertains and educate people’s musical, literary and cultural interests.

Our programs have been both fun and entertaining over the past years and we continue would like to seek to satisfy our audiences within key areas.
